The Three Moments of Connection Challenge is a social-emotional project. To participate in it you can make 3 connections a day and share them with us through dm-ing @3momentsofconnection on Instagram. These moments can be as simple as making eye contact with someone, smiling at someone, making conversation with a friend, or something as simple as that. These little moments are proven to boost your connectedness, resilience, and positivity.
Researcher Barbara Frederickson found that positive emotions are necessary to our well-being. She found the ratio of 3 positive to 1 negative interaction helped people “achieve optimal levels of well-being and resilience.” Frederickson found that these small moments of connection create a biochemical experience releasing oxytocin and giving people a sense of connection to others. Furthermore, this fits in with resilience research that shows that one caring adult, connected to a community, helps teenagers and young people feel more resilient. The hormone oxytocin is a key chemical in the calm to connection cascade in the brain. Research shows that oxytocin helps us continue our connection.
We are working with Choose Love Movement to share this initiative with all of the schools they work with so that this can have a greater reach and impact.
The Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement is a nonprofit organization that strives to create safer communities through no-cost social-emotional learning programs that are suited for people of all ages. Their formula is Courage + Gratitude + Forgiveness + Compassion-In-Action = Choosing Love.
